A Message from the Board of Directors

We as a board and staff have not wavered in our commitment. Our goal is to ensure that there is no disruption in programming for youth and families of this city.

The Board of Directors of the DC Trust is deeply saddened to inform you that the DC Trust is facing significant financial challenges at this time due to mismanagement by former leadership over a period of several years. Please know that as soon as the board became aware of the problems, swift action was taken and a plan was mapped out to address the issues. The board has had a series of meetings to discuss the situation in more detail, and is working steadfast towards solutions. Unfortunately, the financial picture is so dire that the board voted to develop a plan for dissolution. We will begin that process at the end of May and conclude by September 30, 2016.

We believe that the organization’s mission is an important one: building sustainable and equitable supports throughout the city so that youth and families can thrive in vibrant, empowered communities. And much of the work performed by the Trust has served these communities well through the years. We are confident that the District administration will work with the board and staff to ensure that there is no disruption of current programs and that all commitments to grantees are fulfilled. There will also be a collaborative process this summer to determine the city’s short and long term needs for youth programs.

We know that this city cares about its youth. We as a board and staff have not wavered in this commitment. Our goal is to ensure that there is no disruption in programming for youth and families of this city.

Marie Johns,
Chair, Board of Directors
